Topography
Lloydminster is located on the 4th Meridian, also known as the border between the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. It is at 53 0 17’ latitude and 110 0 00’ longitude. The elevation is 669 metres above sea level. Topographically this area is classified as Aspen Parkland. It is characterized by a transitional grassland eco-climate, with short, warm summers, continuous snow cover throughout winter and moderate annual precipitation. Parent material is classified as Cretaceous shale, with significant areas of lacustrine and fluvioglacial deposits.

North Saskatchewan River
Hundreds of small lakes, ponds, and sloughs can be found throughout the area. The region is centred between the North Saskatchewan River to the north, and the Battle River to the south.
Climate and Weather
The Lloydminster Region normally receives standard prairie climate conditions each year. This is characterized by quite cold winters with excesses of snowfall to mild, slightly warm, rainy summers. The differences in extreme temperatures in any given year can be as much as 35 to 40 degrees Celsius between winter and summer. Generally, winter conditions (cold temperatures and snowfall) last from November through until March, with snow sometimes even occurring in April, May, September, and October. The main summer months are June, July, and August, with May and September normally being mild months. This region receives approximately 2170 hours of sunshine each year and has 120 frost-free days. Precipitation primarily occurs from May until September.
