Lloydminster Economic Development Corporation attended the Husky Energy grand opening on May 17, 2012 in which their central office facility involved in production and development of heavy oil was unveiled to the public. The facility features solar panels and high-efficiency mechanical systems to reduce energy consumption and is designed to accommodate 375 staff.

During the presentation, Husky Energy made significant announcements such as a generous contribution of $1.1 million to Lakeland College’s Centennial campaign which will be used for developing power engineering training and certification programs. The donation will also contribute to the upgrades to the Oil and Gas Technology Centre and Power Engineering Lab. Another announcement is the CO2 Capture and Liquefaction Project to further support and expand its heavy oil production in the area. This project will allow for more oil to be recovered while reducing CO2 emissions.

Husky Energy has been a significant contributor in the region for 65 years of successful operation. This exemplifies Husky Energy’s commitment to Lloydminster and region through their continued support of the economy to help sustain, enhance and grow.
