Retail Sector
The retail industry continues to expand throughout the region and is the third largest industry and employs over 4000 people. In the City of Lloydminster, there has been extensive growth with the addition of many national chain stores and the development of several new retail districts. Wal-Mart, Staples and Canadian Tire are a few of the major retailers located in Cornerstone Centre which are complemented by several other retailers including Mark’s Work Warehouse, Lammle’s Western Wear and Kelsey’s Restaurant to name a few. Safeway, Sears and Zellers anchor the LloydMall, which is also home to several other retailers including a newly expanded Ricki’s clothing store. The newly developed Rendell Centre is home to a wide range of retailers including the Lazy-Boy Gallery, Sew in Tune and Verses. As well, Downtown Lloydminster boasts more than 250 businesses, including a variety of retail stores, personal and health services, professionals, dining, entertainment and government facilities.
Manufacturing & Construction
Manufacturing is a growing industry with many major companies capitalizing on the transportation and distribution advantages that the region has to offer. Construction has exploded over the last few years, with a steady increase in building permits since 1999. In 2005, the City of Lloydminster had over $120 million dollars worth of construction.
