Highway access is one of the many strengths of the region. The Yellowhead Highway #16, runs directly through the region and is the primary route from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Prince Rupert, British Columbia. The Yellowhead Highway is twinned from the Alberta-Saskatchewan border in Lloydminster, west to Jasper, Alberta. The twinning process continues from the border, east to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with less than 60km not currently twinned.
Highway #17 runs north and south of Lloydminster, parallel to the provincial border in many locations. Alberta Highway #41 is a major north-south route from Cold Lake to Medicine Hat, Alberta with Vermilion strategically located at the junction of this highway with the Yellowhead Highway #16. Saskatchewan Highway #21 is also a north-south route from Pierceland, Saskatchewan to the United States border, running through Maidstone and crossing the Yellowhead.
This excellent, all weather highway access for the region results in an extensive array of trucking services being available. Direct services to all major cities in both Canada and the United States are available, including overnight service to Edmonton, Saskatoon or Calgary. Services include flat beds, fuel, dry and liquid bulk, grain carriers, livestock hauling, refrigeration units and gravel trucks.
