Electrical Services
Sask Power
- SaskPower operates 15 generating facilities, with an installed capacity of 3,505 net megawatts as of December 31, 2004. These generating facilities include 3 coal-fired stations, 7 hydroelectric stations, 4 natural gas stations, and 1 wind generation facility.
- Fossil generation is used to supply about 70% of the electricity produced by SaskPower.
- SaskPower manages 150,000 km of line across 526,600 km2, which are more kilometres of line than any other Western Canadian utility.
- SaskPower is governed by The Power Corporation Act.
ATCO Electric
- ATCO Electric has provided Albertans with safe, reliable, electric service for 80 years, and is a member of the ATCO Group of Companies
- Their service area covers nearly two-thirds of the province of Alberta.
- ATCO Electric builds, operates, and maintains more than 67,000 km of power lines.
- ATCO Electric also operates 12,100 km of line owned by Rural Electrification Associations.
- ATCO Electric employs more than 900 people.
Natural Gas
Sask Energy
- Saskatchewan’s natural gas distribution utility and is a twelve-year-old provincial Crown corporation
- Through a 65,000 km distribution system, SaskEnergy provides natural gas service to more than 325,000 homes, farms, commercial, and industrial customers in over 585 communities across Saskatchewan.
- Operated under the authority of the SaskEnergy Act.
ATCO Gas
- In 1999, ATCO Gas became the new name for the distribution arm of two of Alberta’s oldest and most trusted suppliers of natural gas – Northwestern Utilities Limited and Canadian Western Natural Gas Company Limited.
- ATCO Gas provides natural gas service to over 2,400,000 Albertans.
- ATCO Gas serves more than 300 Alberta communities through 57 district offices across the province
- ATCO Gas has 1,600 employees in Alberta
- ATCO Gas owns and operates 34,000 km of pipeline throughout Alberta
- Other services offered by ATCO Gas include annual routine furnace inspections, EnergySense program, toll-free customer assistance, and the Blue Flame Kitchen.
Telecommunications
SaskTel
- SaskTel has delivered first-rate telecommunications to the people of Saskatchewan for more than 90 years.
- The SaskTel serving area links 13 cities with 566 smaller communities and their surrounding rural areas. They serve over 454,000 business and residential customers, and over 55,000 farms.
- SaskTel employs approximately 4000 people.
- SaskTel oversees the corporation’s core telecommunications business, while the following business units continue to diversify into newer services, products and markets:
- SaskTel Mobility
- SecurTek
- SaskTel International
- Hospitality Network Canada Inc.
- Direct West
- SaskTel provides a full range of communication services over a digital, fibre optic-based network.

- Telus Corporation is the largest telecommunications company in Western Canada, and the second largest in the country

Water/Sewer
City of Lloydminster - (780) 875-6184
- On an average day, residents and businesses in Lloydminster pump 21.5 million litres of water from the North Saskatchewan River for their consumption. Storage ponds are located at the river for raw water and store 95 million litres of water. Another storage facility located at the water treatment plant holds 170.5 million gallons of water. Approximately 9.1 million litres of water are treated a day. Two storage containers are available for treated water, with one holding 1.9 million litres and the second holding 3.8 million litres of treated water.
- The Lloydminster sewer system has a 6.8 million gallon bar screen system, which removes solids. Water flows into 3 aerated lagoons, which are then pumped into the river.
- The Raw Water pipeline crosses highways, roadways, oil pipelines, gas pipelines and other underground utilities. The line has a design capacity of 60 million litres per day.

Landfills:
- In Lloydminster, Landfill Tipping Fees are based on the weight being dumped. All vehicles will be weighed in and out to determine the weight of the material and the fee.
- City residents may take their residential wastes to the landfill at no charge.
- Residential pickup within the City of Lloydminster occurs weekly. The associated fees are $9.52, which is paid on a monthly basis.

Recycling
- The Blue Box Recycling Program in Lloydminster provides recycling facilities for both commercial and residential products such as clear glass; paper; corrugated cardboard; some plastics; cans; bottles; tetra packs; and engine oil containers.
- The program will not accept items such as coloured glass (ceramics, mirrors, china); windows; light bulbs; laminated paper; brown paper bags; plastic coated cardboard; food boxes; egg cartons; milk bags; plastic food wrap; diapers; and dishes.
